What does "bills directly" mean?
When a psychologist bills your scheme directly, they send the invoice straight to your scheme provider (for example, Medicare). The scheme pays the psychologist the full agreed fee. You do not pay anything at any point.
This is sometimes called gap-free psychology, because there is no gap between what the scheme pays and what the psychologist charges. ClearAccess is the first — and only — directory in Australia that shows you exactly which psychologists offer this across Medicare, DVA, NDIS, WorkCover, and TAC.
How does gap-free psychology work?
- Find a psychologist — Search by your postcode and filter by the schemes you are covered under.
- Check the scheme — Each psychologist lists which schemes they accept. If you see your scheme listed, they will bill it directly.
- Book your session — Contact the psychologist and let them know which scheme you are covered by. They will handle the rest.
- Attend at no cost — You turn up for your session and do not need to pay. Not before, not during, not after.

Do I need to check anything before I book?
Always confirm at the time of booking that the psychologist is still accepting your scheme and is taking on new clients. Policies can change.
